Cristina Sheppard-Decius, manager of the East and West Dearborn DDAs (via Executive Management Services contract with POW! Strategies, Inc.), has worked with the City of Dearborn, East and West Dearborn DDAs and Dearborn community stakeholders to build a cohesive Downtown Dearborn along Michigan Avenue since 2015. With more than 19 years of downtown management experience and more than 20 years of experience in public relations, marketing, volunteer organizational management and economic development, Sheppard-Decius is most notably known nationally and locally for her proven track record of revitalizing Downtown Ferndale, Michigan, during her tenure as the Executive Director of the Ferndale DDA from 2000-2015. Recognized as one of Crain’s Detroit Business’ 40 Under 40 in 2009, Sheppard-Decius holds a B.A. in Public Relations from Western Michigan University and is a Certified Main Street Manager (CMSM) (2005) of the National Main Street Center.
Janet Bloom, operations manager of the East and West Dearborn DDAs (via Executive Management Services contract with POW! Strategies, Inc.), has more than fifteen years of non-profit and city government experience. She is a certified Project Management Professional (PMP), and has spent many of her years in program management and event director roles at area Chambers of Commerce and local governments. Bloom has acted as a liaison with local businesses, community and civic organizations, incubators, economic and development organizations and local and state governments.
Bloom’s experience also includes time spent in inventory management systems at Walt Disney World, operations in the automotive advertising agency arena and sales and marketing at a multi-national management consulting firm. Bloom attended Michigan State University and holds a B.A. in Advertising from the College of Communication Arts and Sciences, and a B.A. in Marketing from the Eli Broad College of Business.
Helen Lambrix, Social Media and Marketing Manager for Downtown Dearborn, has over 20 years experience in marketing and project management. She spent time in the non-profit world coordinating funding engagement, stake-holder relations, and event marketing and logistics support for large scale events like the Detroit Superbowl XL, Detroit Thanksgiving Parade, and the North American International Auto Show, before turning toward small-business management and consulting in aspects such as marketing, website management, content creation, and events management. Lambrix has also worked in corporate marketing for national brands like Lexus, Toyota, and Nissan/Infiniti, and for Volkswagen of America as administrator of their North American company car benefits program.
Over the last 12 years, Lambrix has utilized her skill set to assist others and support her local school district, doing everything from managing events and taking up leadership roles to large scale fundraising initiatives. Lambrix has a BA in Communications from Western Michigan University.
Cathleen Francois, Event Manager, is responsible for overseeing gatherings and campaigns that promote business stimulation and community entertainment. Long known as a Connector of Resources and Ecological Sustainability Influencer within the Metro Detroit area, Francois has a proven track record for promoting natural wellness, diversity and inclusion, and creating ecological and sustainable business strategies for upcoming and established businesses and municipal environments. As the Executive Director of a boutique specialty media company, she lead operations, public relations, created strategies for various companies expansions, website and story content, editing, and successfully maintained relationships with over 350 online member entities. Her company provided consulting and media support for over 600 events and programs, through which she coordinated and co-produced the GreeningDetroit Synergy Leaders Conference for 3 consecutive years. Francois has over forty years experience in multiple fields of diverse and public related positions involving keynote speaking, workshop facilitation, event creation and management, fundraising, radio, TV, and social media content, team-building management, business operations, creating social media and marketing campaigns, budgeting, and educational training. As a Multi-Cultural & Inclusive Sensitivities Trainer, Behavioral Intervention Specialist, and with 38 years of personal research and development in the fields of philosophy and comparative religion, she has a unique perspective on business and community welfare.

POW! Strategies, Inc. is searching for an experienced farmers market manager to provide event management services for Downtown Dearborn’s two farmers markets.
The West Dearborn Downtown Development Authority hosts the weekly Dearborn Farmers & Artisans Market at Wagner Park in Downtown Dearborn on Fridays from 2-7 p.m. from June through the end of September each year. The market is in its 11th year and typically has over 20 vendors per week consisting of produce, baked goods, artisans and crafters, etc.
In 2022, the East Dearborn Downtown Development Authority is adding the Dearborn Farmers & Artisans Market to its weekly music series on Wednesdays from 4-7 p.m. from June – July.
This is a contract position and will report directly to POW! Strategies. The Market Manager will join the POW! Strategies, Inc. team of professionals to plan and execute the Dearborn Farmers & Artisans Market.
The Market Manager must have a strong knowledge and understanding of community engagement, and the marketing skills to promote the downtown district and events successfully. The person selected should be reliable, friendly, self-motivated and efficient. Experience with social media tools such as email list servers, Facebook, Instagram, and websites. This role must be available for phone and email contact with vendors & team meetings. Able to work outdoors in all weather, and safely lift and carry 50 pounds. The position requires the ability to work independently, as well as interdependently with management team, city staff, vendors and internal & external customers. Market management experience and certification a plus.
The work schedule requires on-site direction and management in office, in the downtown districts and at events. Contractor is responsible for their own ability to be a mobile office, ie: smartphone, laptop, tablet.
The Contractor must be available to:
- Attend a majority of the DDDA Board meetings (1 per month) to communicate event updates and strategies. Contractor must provide monthly update in writing for Board packet.
- Attend all Promotions/Organization Committee meetings (1 per month) and avail themselves to any and all sub-committee and other coordinating meetings.
- Be in-office to process accounts payables, donations, vendor/sponsor contracts and reconcile DUFB, Senior Project Fresh, WIC and POP club reimbursements on a weekly basis.
- Direct and manage any interns that assist Contractor with events, communications and social media.
- Engage in educational opportunities.
Average Monthly Hours: 50- 65
- Microsoft Office, G-Suite & Social Media skills and the ability to discover new delivery channels for maximized impact in the community.
